Time for another update! The Stug platoon is finished and I think they turned out quite nice, if I were to repaint them I would probably do a few things differently but overall I'm quite happy with them.

So I've been getting a little work done on my Stug platoon, still quite a lot of work left to do, but hopefully I will be able to finish them the coming week.

So far they have been a lot of fun to paint and hopefully they will turn out ok. The chipping could have been better some places, but think I will try to redo some parts.

Stug III Platoon - Battlefront - Open Fire

So I just finished my first 3 Open Fire Shermans so now It's time to paint some more german tanks. These are the Stug III from the Battlefront Open Fire set and to be honest they are quite nice. The only real negative thing I have to say is the exhaust is pretty poorly represented, but that's a minor thing.

I've been throwing a bit of paint on these while waiting for paint to dry on my shermans so no early stage photos.

Well here's the current state of the Stugs

Stug III Finished! atlast!

Just finished giving them the matt varnish, been painting for hours and I'm exhausted :p i hate painting Stugs right now, and it's going to be quite a while before i make another one, fantastic kits though and outstanding detail, really a pleasure to assemble and paint.

The kits in question are, as mention in other posts, both Dragon kits:

Dragon 7283 -  StuG.III Ausf.G Early Production

Dragon 7354  -  StuG.III Ausf.G (Reviewed it before)

The kits are basicly identical except the 7354 got side skirts, which look fantastic by the way, but 7283 is still a very good kit, but if you wanted to build a Stug III without side skirts you might as well buy the one with, since you'll have them as spare parts or maybe you change your mind.

Both kits were bought on HobbyEasy, and at the moment 7354 is only 2HKD more expensive than 7283, so it's not like it will ruin your.

Here are a couple of pictures of the painting in progress. It took quite a while longer than i had planned to finish these two, i had actually hoped to start priming my JagdPanthers and maybe even give them a basecoat before i went to bed yesterday, this was not to happen though.

Here you can see them with my old Stug III on the right, i think they all turned out alright.

As usual these Dragon kits are pure pleasure to build and i can only recommend both kits for every 1/72 enthusiast.

Managed to get abit more done on my Stugs, the camo is now finished and detail painting, decals and varnish left. I tried to make them look like the StugIII i've build earlier and i think i managed to almost replicate the same shades.

Here you can see the Stug III i already finished, standing next to the ones i'm currently painting.

Next up i have to start painting all the tools and stuff like that, i'm not looking forward to paint the wheels black since this tend to be very tedious work :D

JagdTiger

I also finished assembling one of my Dragon JagdTigers while i was waiting for the Stugs to dry. It should be easier to compare it to the Trumpeter JagdTigers now.

In some aspects the Trumpeter JagdTiger got better detail than its Dragon counterpart, but in other areas the Dragon is clearly better, the cannon for instance and the gun mantle is a lot better on the Dragon in my opinion. I do believe the Trumpeter JagdTiger is a few years newer than the Dragon JagdTiger and Dragon have released a new JagdTiger with zimmerit since then, but i haven't build it so i don't know if it's better.

Overall the two kits are pretty equal and i would recommend them both. Dragon to also make a JagdTiger with the Henschel suspension, but it also comes with a crane on top of it, i do suppose it's possible to build it without it.

Well that's it for now, i hope i can be done with the Stugs soon so i can get on with my JagdPanthers.

Work in Progress

So i started painting my last two Stug III yesterday, so far i have only had the time to prime, basecoat and apply the brown camo and i'm not sure if i will have the time to do anything else on the this weekend.

Beside those i finished building my 3 Trumpeter JagdTigers and they look quite nicely, i would like the side skirts for them and i'm currently looking into that. I accedently bought a couple of Dragon JagdTigers aswell when i visited the Panzermuseum in Munster, Germany, because i wanted to compare them. The Dragon ones are the Porsche suspension and i'm not sure if Dragon even did a Henchel version in 1/72. 
But they actually compare nicely, both kits have details that are better than the other, but overall they are mostly the same.

Here you can see a few pictures of my Trumpeter JagdTigers, i think the detail level is quite nice it's just a shame there are no side skirts for them in the kit. But i know it's possible to buy some PE-skirts for them and i might do that. The zimmerit is decent not as realistic as Dragons though but not bad really.

 Here are some pictures to compare the two kits, Trumpeter on the left and Draogon on the Right

You might remember in a previous post i said that i had also gotten an Elefant from Dragon, this i have finished building aswell.

 If you compare it to the Ferdinand i build earlier you will notice there really isn't much difference, except for the key features which make it an Elefant and not a Ferdinand, such as the machinegun, but besides that not much difference, still a good kit though.






I will be posting some more pictures of the progress on the Stugs whenever i get the time to actually progress.
